12 February 2005 - Eddie Good Folks, With Aaron now with us in the trenches of Aceh, we will each now only send journal updates and pictures to the web site. This way you will be privy to each of our "stories" and pictures just by going to the web site. It also simplifies it for us here, circumventing the need for each of us to send out much of the same to 3 separate distribution lists. So, please go to our web site as often as you like for more of what we are up to. It is pretty cool, complete with a photo room, all our stories and a guest book you can sign and comment in. Simply direct your URL line to www.austin-international-rescue.org And send anyone else there you think might be interested. I still would love to hear from individuals, and will try to reply with text as much as possible. Hearing from you all really helps keep our spirits up! When Aaron and I returned from Jakarta, we learned that Surya really liked us and wanted to continue accommodating us at his place. With Aaron here, we've been able to talk our way right back to the set up we had. We bought our own mattresses and re-established camp/office/home/bed and bathroom there. It works as we have phone, internet (at times), and power to recharge our gadgets. The address is: Jl. Tgk. Imeum Lueng Bata No. 9 Banda Aceh, Sumatra Indonesia You can even call us at +62-81-511691881, which is my in-country cell; or at our office at +61-0651-32177 NOT SURE HOW THESE WOULD WORK FROM THE STATES... We continue to work out details of getting the village of Krueng Raya (correct spelling, finally!) back to fishing. To date the plan is to hire local craftsman to build 9 boats over the next 21/2 months. We got the details on where, how and who would do the clearing, set up, get the tools, materials and actually build the boats. All locals! Eric would stay here and oversee the work, along with Surya Arsyad who has now unofficially joined AIRO as a local volunteer. Aaron and I will put together a business plan with details and time-lines. More details later. Left are pictures of our base camp... I've spared you pictures of the bathroom - picture a hole in the ground and a tub of water and you got it all! |
