6 Sept 2005 - Eddie Big Fish Austin What a great 3-month ride it was back in Big Fish Peunayong! Lots of progress on all fronts and lots of boats. I was ready to stay on further but had already booked home flights back when I had little idea of the volume of work we'd be developing so quickly. By the time I left just last week, I was already anxious to get back and get on with all that has to be done. No worries, Eric has his friend/volunteer Paul for two months and Aaron will return to BA in a couple of weeks. Opening up Big Fish and bringing it into livable quarters was a real treat. It meant a modicum of comfort after a long day of hot and dirty streets. As Eric finishes out the 1st and second floor, it will only get better. Once complete, the three 45-foot long floors of Big Fish will afford AIRO spacious living and work space. The AIRO project board now sports several boat building proposals to build anew or repair upwards of 200, various size boats. Clearly there is no shortage of need for livelihood recovery in fisheries. If we can just repeat our current project level every 6 months, we'd put some 800 boats back in the water over the next two years. And there was the Dallas Morning News article! Eric and I danced for joy when we first read it on-line. What a nice compliment to AIRO, and in a major newspaper. If you haven't read it yet, do so soon as you will enjoy it. We are certainly off and running! Eric is now the man on the scene while Aaron and I continue full time office work at Big Fish Austin, aka "Men's Club". I like my new job... It's a good gig on either side of the planet! Building Hope in Aceh, Eddie New pictures to follow... |
